the first person i was friends with who died, died when i was in my 20s. i never took his address out of my address book, but i tend to get a new address book every 3 or 4 years, and his address naturally "fell out."
with computers, however, you have to manually delete names from your buddy list. i've never been able to do that with my friends who have died in the last 13 years. so it was shocking when blaise's screen name popped up on my buddy list yesterday. as he died in 2001, it's not surprising that aol has reused his screen name. but it sure was surprising to me to see "him" online.
his mom is also still on my buddy list. and i don't think i'll ever delete them. fortunately, remembering makes me smile rather than cry.
