chestybethry gave me a couple of john legend cds for my birthday. knowing that sometimes even satellite radio can fail to entertain me, i put one of the cds in my car stereo today on my way to work. at which point, my stereo's faceplate stopped controlling my stereo. i couldn't eject the cd, i couldn't switch to radio, i couldn't turn the volume down. it was all john legend, all the way to work, whether i liked it or not. i laughed a little to myself and kept driving.
i pulled into the employee parking lot and turned the car off. except the stereo kept playing! unable to be late to work without getting in trouble, i quickly opened the hood of the car and looked at the battery. then i remembered i had taken the pliers out of the car last week to remove the staples from zamboni's nose (left in from his oxygen tube after the surgery). great. then i remembered -- fusebox! i pulled the glove compartment open, read the diagram, and pulled out the radio fuse. nothing happened. did i mention that we're having really high, as in 38 mph winds here? so high that planes were being diverted to other airports? i thought about calling my dad, but from inside the car, with john legend blaring, i wouldn't have been able to hear him. and really there was nothing he could do anyway.
desperate, i turned the car back on and off. the cd appeared to stop for some random reason! however i wasn't sure if it really was off, or if it would be sitting there draining my battery for the next 11 hours. so i texted my trusty brother and asked what he was doing tonight at 11:15. "sleeping." was his answer. great.
he did manage to convince his business partner to drop off a self-contained jump starter. which i now have to lug through the airport, onto the skylink, through the airport, onto the employee bus, and out to my car. it only weighs about 25 lbs.
and did i mention that the entire time i was in the employee parking lot with the hood up, exactly NO ONE stopped to offer help? fucking texas, i tell you. manners worse than armadillos. when my car broke down in atlanta, there would be a line of people offering to help.
to top it off, the buses that are supposed to run every 7 minutes, didn't. we waited 22 minutes between buses. then the trainee bus driver decided to take the scenic route. and i was 10 minutes late to work anyway.
but hopefully, all will be well when i return to my car tonight. if i get abducted by some "crazed killer" that my co-worker thinks will be waiting in the parking lot, this will be my last blog post.

I would have driven home and called in sick. But that's just me. Although John Legend back to back might have killed me. I think you can take a crazed killer with one hand tied behind your back.
