the irony of my last post, a brand new season, not including a single word about the brand new HOCKEY season, is not lost on me.
wednesday my computer died. the dreaded blue screen of death, as i had only heard stories, but had never experienced. my life immediately went downhill, fast. it wasn't pretty, i wasn't pretty. near hysteria and anxiety ensued. until i got in touch with my computer's midwife on thursday, i was a mess. such a mess, i completely forgot that the red wings first game of the season was that same night. i totally missed it.
i freely admit that i spend a lot of time in front of the computer these days. not only is it my number one method of corresponding with friends, but it's also how most of my job search is conducted. being suddenly cut off, shackled with this ancient technology called "dial up" after becoming used to my fabulous fios, on an almost 10 year old laptop just recently upgraded to windows 98, left me in touch with friends but unable to do much else, as surfing is impossible at such slow speeds and without my bookmarked search sites.
i'd been thrown into..... quiet. not quiet by CHOICE, either. out of my control quiet. so it's no surprise that i was sucked into an episode of oprah about a book i'd heard about but never read, eat pray love. immediately i hated this author. the intro made me want to puke. first of all, it starts out "at the age of 31" and the author looks older than me. then she goes on about how she hated her marriage, didn't want kids, and was miserable and i thought waah waah waah. try being 41, never married, and out of work for 16 fucking months. blow me. but i have to say, i watched the first 15 minutes of the interview, and she had won me over. so i'm glad that even though i can be judgmental i don't have to be so stubborn that i might miss out on something good. and it was very good.
i managed to catch the second red wings game (damn you robert lang for signing with chicago!) and the first thrashers game, when they hoisted their divisional banner. made me yearn for the days when carl and i rocked philips arena. and can someone please tell steve craig that you don't stretch out words and names just for the sake of stretching out words and names? makes my ears bleed.
