be prepared

i'm sure it's the wildfires in california, with a little bit of leftover jamiesmitten blog morbidity, that is reminding me to make a mental list of things i would shove in the car in case i had to evacuate my house. i remember first thinking about this when 9/11 happened the week i moved to north carolina. then two years ago, hurricane katrina brought those creepy thoughts up again. it definitely doesn't help that i have a really small car, and with my two dogs, my katrina foster dog, the two new rabbits (and lotto trotting behind, i guess, since i don't have a horse trailer!), there's not a whole lot of room left. but i'm pretty sure i'd bring:

fizz's ashes
yearbooks. ah, the memories. good times. or so people keep telling me.
photo albums, slides, and scrapbook
computer
jewelry
box of hockey jerseys, all time favorite tee shirts, sweatshirts and hats

i was watching the news and someone mentioned christmas ornaments. in all my planning, i'd never even thought of that. thanks msnbc. but i'm sure i'm forgetting something really important.

so what would YOU pack? i challenge you to post your list. all three of you who sometimes read my blog, i'm talking to you.

i heard one very practical recommendation about this, although of course i haven't done it myself. copy all your most important pictures to a cd and then store them in your safety deposit box or with a reliable friend. i really think that if i could get anything out it would be the cats, my grandmother's pictures (of which I am the official keeper) and my cpu. i think that's about it.

Like you could fit all your photo albums in your car. I think your next purchase needs to be a trailer. I'll think about this and post tomorrow.

Also, I don't think you can blame me for this train of thought, MY post was about FOOD!
